Vaşington Büyükelçiliği 11.09.2012

Today we are commemorating the eleventh anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, which took the lives of nearly 3000 innocent people in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. We remember and honor the memories of those who lost their lives, mostly American citizens but also nationals of more than 90 countries, in this horrendous crime. Turkey joins the friendly people of the United States of America in their mourning.

As one of the countries that lost tens of thousands of its citizens to terror, Turkey understands the deep physical and emotional effects of the tragedy on the people of the United States and shares their sorrow. Along with the American people, Turkish people will always remember the innocent victims, among whom, a Turkish citizen, Mr. Zühtü İbiş, also passed away in the World Trade Center in New York.

On the anniversary of this tragic event we also remember the victims of previous and current acts of terrorism conducted against Turkish citizens, security forces and diplomats in Turkey and abroad. Turkey is determined to continue its fight against terrorism and as a leading country in this international effort, stands side by side with the United States and calls on the international community to continue its firm stance against all forms and manifestations of terror.
