A Presentation On The World's Oldest Temple, Göbekli Tepe, By Professor Klaus Schmidt

The Culture and Tourism Counselor’s Office at The Embassy of Turkey in Washington D.C. cordially invites you and a guest to an extraordinary presentation and discussion on Göbekli Tepe, the world’s oldest temple located in Turkey.

Göbekli Tepe, the Stone Age sanctuaries located in Southeastern Turkey, predates Stonehenge by 6,000 years, making it the first human-built holy place. The site in Göbekli Tepe has become an important archaeological discovery that may change the way we understand the development of human civilization.

The event will feature Professor Klaus Schmidt, the world-famous archaeologist and foremost authority on Göbekli Tepe. Prof. Schmidt is currently an archaeologist in the Orient Department of the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin. He has been leading the excavations at Gürcü Tepe and Göbekli Tepe sites since 1995. Prof. Schmidt will share his first-hand experiences and insights about this stunning discovery in Şanlıurfa, Turkey.

The lecture will take place onMonday, June 16, 2014at6 p.m. at the Embassy. Following the lecture and Q&A, there will be a reception with hors d’oeuvres starting at 7:30 p.m.
