Press Release Regarding The Trilateral Meeting Of Foreign Ministers Of Turkey, Afghanistan And Pakistan , 04.06.2010

The Trilateral Meeting of Foreign Ministers with the participation of H.E. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey, H.E. Zalmai Rassoul, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and H.E. Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, will be held in Istanbul on 7 June 2010 in the framework of the Trilateral Summit Process initiated in 2007 among Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The meeting will take place pursuant to the decision taken at the Third Summit held on 1 April 2009.

The Trilateral Process is one of the important aspects of Turkey’s close relations with Afghanistan and Pakistan based on existing bonds of brotherhood and friendship. The process includes various dimensions such as economy, development, security and interparliamentary contacts.

At the meeting, the Ministers will deliberate on the level of cooperation reached at the Trilateral Process and will also exchange views on future steps. The meeting will also be an opportunity to discuss current developments related to Afghanistan including the Peace Jirga convened on 2-4 June 2010 and the Kabul Conference that will be held on 20 July 2010. In this context, possibilities for developing regional cooperation will be one of the agenda items. The Ministers will also assess the preparations for the next Trilateral Summit meeting.
